Understand Interac statuses

An Interac Money Request has its own status separate from your invoice status. This article explains each Interac status and how it interacts with your invoice.

The Interac statuses

  • Available — the request is live. Your customer can accept it from their bank. Your invoice is Sent (or Viewed if they have opened the link).
  • Deposit Complete — the customer completed the transfer. Your invoice becomes Paid.
  • Cancelled — the request has been cancelled. This happens when you void the invoice, or in rare cases when Interac cancels it.
  • Declined — the customer's bank rejected the transfer. Your invoice stays Sent or Viewed. See What happens if a customer's transfer is declined.
  • Expired — the customer did not accept within 30 days. Your invoice stays Sent or Viewed but Interac will not deliver payment even if the customer clicks the old link.
  • Unknown — Interac has not yet reported a status, or reported something ATB Invoicing does not recognize. Refresh to try again.

Where you see the Interac status

Open the invoice and look at the How to pay section. The Interac e-Transfer row shows the current status alongside a Refresh button.

Interac status vs invoice status

The two statuses are linked but separate:

Interac status What it means for the invoice
Available Invoice is Sent or Viewed
Deposit Complete Invoice becomes Paid
Cancelled Usually means you voided the invoice
Declined Invoice stays Sent or Viewed
Expired Invoice stays Sent or Viewed
Unknown Refresh to update

An invoice is Overdue on our side whenever it is past the due date, regardless of the Interac status.
