How do I track GST and HST collected?

The GST/HST Collected card on your dashboard shows the total tax you have collected on paid invoices within the current calendar month. This serves as a quick visual reference for your business's monthly tax collection.

What is counted

To be included in the monthly total, an invoice must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Status is paid: The invoice has been fully paid (either manually marked or automatically reconciled).
  • Payment date in current month: The payment was recorded within the current calendar month.
  • Tax enabled: Tax (GST or HST) was enabled when the invoice was issued.

What is excluded

The dashboard card strictly excludes:

  • Unpaid invoices: Draft, Sent, Viewed, or Overdue invoices (tax has been billed or viewed, but not yet collected).
  • Cancelled or uncollectible invoices: Void or Uncollectible invoices, even if tax was included on the original document.
  • Tax-exempt invoices: Invoices created with GST/HST turned off or zero-rated.
  • Past months: Payments collected in previous calendar months.

Preparing your tax remittance

Important: This dashboard card provides a quick operational snapshot, not a formal tax return. When filing your GST/HST remittance with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), reconcile your numbers using your official accounting system.
