Interac Money Requests remain active until your invoice request expires.
However, Canadian financial institutions enforce per-transaction and daily limits on Interac e-Transfers (typically between $3,000 and $10,000, depending on custom account settings). This article explains how ATB Invoicing handles invoices that exceed these limits.
Invoices exceeding Interac transfer limits
Interac limits are customized based on your account settings. If an invoice total exceeds your maximum Interac limit:
- Multiple payment methods selected: Upon sending, ATB Invoicing automatically removes Interac e-Transfer from the customer's available payment options on the invoice. The invoice is delivered with your other selected payment methods (such as EFT/Direct deposit, Cheque, or Cash).
- Interac selected as the only method: If Interac e-Transfer is the only payment option checked for an invoice that exceeds your limit, ATB Invoicing blocks the invoice from sending. You will be prompted to select an additional payment method or adjust the invoice amount before proceeding.
Best practices
For invoices that carry large contract values, consider the following best practices:
- Enable EFT / Direct deposit: Ensure EFT/Direct deposit is enabled in your payment options so customers with large totals can easily pay via direct bank transfer.
- Split large invoices: If a customer prefers to pay via Interac e-Transfer but the total exceeds the limit, void the single invoice and issue two or more smaller invoices that fall within the allowable limit.
