An Interac Money Request stays open for 30 days from the day you send the invoice. After 30 days, Interac marks the request as Expired and the customer's payment link stops working.
What happens at 30 days
- The Interac request moves to Expired status.
- The customer's payment link stops working — clicking it shows a "This request has expired" message.
- Your invoice in ATB Invoicing stays in Sent or Viewed status. It does not auto-void.
- If the current date is past the due date, the invoice also shows as Overdue.
What to do if a request expires
The invoice is still valid — the customer still owes you the money. But the original Interac link no longer works, so you need to reissue the payment request:
- Void the expired invoice. See Void an invoice.
- Create a new invoice with the same customer, line items, and payment options.
- Send the new invoice.
The customer gets a fresh Interac email with a working link.
Can I extend the 30-day window?
No. 30 days is set by Interac, not ATB Invoicing.
Best practice for long payment terms
If you agree net-60 or net-90 terms with a customer, do not send the Interac request when you issue the invoice — send it about a week before the due date. This keeps the 30-day expiry window aligned with when the customer will actually pay.
