ATB Invoicing provides flexible payment options so your customers can settle their invoices quickly and securely. This guide explains how each payment method works from your customer's perspective.
1. Interac e-Transfer Request (automated reconciliation)
Unlike a traditional e-Transfer where a customer has to manually copy your email address, create a security question, and type in the dollar amount, ATB Invoicing uses Interac Money Requests.
- How it works: The customer clicks the Pay via Interac e-Transfer link directly on their web invoice permalink or downloaded PDF.
- Zero manual entry: Clicking the link redirects the customer to select their Canadian financial institution and log into online banking. Once signed in, all transfer details are pulled in automatically—your business name, the exact CAD invoice total, and reference details are pre-filled on their screen.
- One-click approval: The customer simply selects which bank account to pay from and clicks Approve/Accept.
- Automatic reconciliation: Once approved, the funds transfer instantly and the invoice status automatically updates to Paid on your dashboard.
2. EFT / direct deposit
If you have enabled Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) or Direct Deposit, your banking instructions are displayed directly on the invoice.
- How it works: The customer views your account number, transit number, and financial institution number on their invoice permalink or PDF and initiates a bank transfer through their own business portal.
- Marking as paid: EFT payments do not yet automatically reconcile. Once funds arrive in your bank account, manually update the invoice status by clicking Mark as Paid. Automated reconciliation for EFTs is a future roadmap item.
3. Cash & cheque
For offline payments, your customer can deliver cash or mail/drop off a cheque using the payment terms listed on the invoice.
- Cash and cheque notes: You are able to provide short notes for both cash and cheque that will be printed on the invoice. Use this space to provide payment instructions such as who the cheque is payable to.
- Marking as paid: Once cash is received or the cheque clears your bank account, open the invoice details page, click the three dots (...) menu, and select Mark as Paid.
